With 5 million practitioners in France, chess is indeed one of the historical disciplines that has regained popularity in recent years. The online app boom during the 2020 restrictions, coupled with the release of Le Jeu de la Dame on Netflix, had an immediate impact on the number of licensees.

The game of chess, which facilitates the learning of citizenship by activating the capacity for logic, strategy, rigor and abstraction, respecting rules and others, is included as part of the TOROSSIAN-VILLANI report and as part of the Mathematics Strategy.

Applied from an early age, it contributes to the building of personality by encouraging attention, imagination, anticipation, judgment and self-confidence. It also finds its place in the context of school sports, as it constitutes a cultural element with both educational, social and public health functions and carries the values of equal opportunity. Moreover, the renewed partnership is particularly relevant to students on the vocational path who face difficulties in priority education networks and at school, particularly in mathematics.

The acquisition of the civil service delegation will provide the FFE with concrete tools to strengthen the actions of each sports federation in its two main axes:

  • sports performance with the federal performance project: a performance plan for the French teams of today and tomorrow;
  • Social performance through the implementation of the FFE’s national strategy covering the fight against violence in sport, sport health, inclusion, disability, international impact…
