“It was a little crazy when we took over the club”

John Jourdan. We are in the process of regaining our place at the regional concert. We’re going into District 2, three points ahead of Casseneuil. As long as there was no equivalent in 47 in terms of the number of licenses, we were at 560 before Kovid, today there are close to 470 licensed.

Sandrine Pequignot. It is a historic club.

Is this club of the state city still the club all teams want to beat? How is it detected?

not a word There is history and little stories. When we leave the department, we get very good feedback from the clubs, when we are in the department, we will say “Parigot”, “the club of the capital”, “we will not miss you”.

WOMAN It is more divisive in the department, but when you go to play in the region, there is respect and thought, just like any other club.

What has changed since you took over the club four years ago? Which achievements are you most proud of?

not a word In addition, we tried to reinforce that the club is not only a sports club but also a living space, and that there is no separation bleeding at the level of parents and youth. Life has started again. The emphasis is not on the sporting results, but on the fact that we are starting to reap the fruits of what we do.

You’re still celebrating participation in District 2…

not a word It’s not just the first team. We bet on educators who are on the same human lines as us. The lead actor is Bibi Tahraoui, who is known to have this humanistic nature. Kévin Smolarczyk is his alter-ego on a youth level, or Adrien Tourette on a junior level. And then, this season, we switched to a youth deal with Boé to form the group Boé-Agen FC. It has been shown that the so-called rival clubs can come to an agreement in the interests of the youth.

WOMAN We made four records and two climbs in 4 years. We’ve been labeled seniors, elite soccer school, women’s gold, and FFF living space. Thanks to the grouping, all our youth teams are at the regional level. We are coming to the centennial, the club is structured and doing better.

Yes, when you came to 2018, the club was shaken by internal conflicts because it was not won, has it almost disappeared?

WOMAN It was a little crazy. That was the biggest downfall… I’ve been at the club for over 20 years, I’ve seen it from the inside. We were starting to hit rock bottom, we needed a head-to-head response. Our goal, I don’t know if we can say it existed, was just to recapture the club to prevent it from falling apart. At first, it was only short-term.

not a word Well, there was no danger of getting lost afterwards, there was the money from Aymeric Laporte’s transfer…

Is this financial manna of 650,000 euros, in the end, a blessing or a curse?

not a word Both at once. From an accounting standpoint, that was clearly a blessing, because without that money we would never have been able to do what we do. There were debts, the club was financially fragile and still is today. But it’s also a curse. Sofas reviewers don’t know how an association works and they confuse cash with club project.

“We want the city to help us build a new grandstand on the main pitch”

Has the club reclaimed its place in town?

not a word We had a policy that went unnoticed at City, tired of seeing a club tear itself apart. But we succeeded in bringing these projects to new infrastructures and a football signature on the sports plain.

What are the sporting goals?

not a word As seniors, we still want to move up a notch but we will need to recruit. Zone 2 is a high pitch and then there will be six landings in a 14-man pool, we don’t have the right to be average. We want our B team to rise to the regional level, as well as for the C team. And the fact that all our youth teams are at the regional level, together with the youth BAFC. Attention, this does not mean that we want to practice elitism, this is wrong. We have reserve teams playing in the county, so we do collective training.

And for women’s football?

Women’s football has stagnated since Covid and the League has banned deals. What is certain is that we want to continue education from age 6 to age 18. We’re a little curious at the post-adults level.

What are the next challenges for SUA Foot?

not a word The next challenge is to stabilize financially, we have a deficit. If we want to develop at the right level, we have an incompressible level of expenditure and income does not follow. It is valid for all levels, like a 29.000 Euro grant from the municipality… It is not the same when there are 90.000 in Marmande. And then we’ll have to look for sponsorship, we currently have about thirty private partners.

We want the city to help us build a new grandstand on the main field. Later, we established the first sports department with EBBE and Palissy high school, recruitment is underway.

WOMAN It’s a big boat, it’s up to us to make sure it doesn’t deviate. The values we put in the club must continue. We must recreate this pride of being in SUA.
