Léonie Daigneault-Leclerc, the brand’s designer and founder, commemorates her mother, who died 15 years ago. “When I was a child, my parents died of cancer. I was 8 years old when I lost my father, and 14 when my mother died. As I celebrate my 30th birthday this year, I realized that I have lived more than half of my life without my mother. I really wanted to respect her. »

The designer worked in collaboration with illustrator Joannie Houle because she really likes the way she paints forget-me-nots, her mother’s favorite flowers. “May was forget-me-not season and a good time for this new collection that was released after a 15-month hiatus, because I had my second child,” she explains.

The new spring collection consists of a cream white or soft forget-me-not-print blouse and camisole and a floral wrapover skirt. All these pieces are made in Quebec from certified organic cotton. “The pieces are getting mixed up. The latter always works with environmentally friendly materials such as Belgian flax, hemp and lyocell. Mastering the arts of sustainable fashion, Léonie Daigneault-Leclerc has always championed the importance of local and environmentally responsible production. “Consumers are becoming more aware of the local economy and workforce than ever before, and this is affecting the way people consume. We produce in small quantities, avoid wastage and loss, adjust the production according to pre-sale orders. »

Where does the name Gaia & Dubos come from? “Gaïa is the goddess of the planet, the Mother Earth in Greek mythology, symbolizing the protection of the planet and humanity, which are the founding values ​​of the brand. Dubos, XX. It is for René Dubos, one of the French environmentalists of the 20th century.and Léonie Daigneault-Leclerc describes the century that coined the slogan “Think globally, act locally”.
