Nottingham Forest’s Championship game at Bournemouth on Friday night was postponed due to Storm Eunice’s damage to Vitality Stadium.

The Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning for most of southeast England, with strong winds and continued disruption expected across much of the area.

In a statement posted on the club’s official website at 4 pm on Friday, “Structural engineers conducted an inspection of the stadium and confirmed that the damage could pose a significant risk to the safety of the fans.

“The continued impact of the storm means that the damage cannot be repaired in time to fill the match on Friday or at a rescheduled time on Saturday.

“The postponement was recommended by the club’s safety advisory group.

“The new date of the match will be announced in the coming days. All tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled match, but any fans who cannot attend the new date will be entitled to a refund.

“The club apologize for the inconvenience this announcement has caused, but we would like to reassure fans that the game was made with the safety of everyone expected to attend.”

Bournemouth is currently second in the Championship, six points behind leaders Fulham but four points ahead of third-placed Blackburn, with Forest two points behind the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest expressed disappointment with the decision, which was taken less than four hours before kick-off.

A statement from them said: “Nottingham Forest has received confirmation from AFC Bournemouth that tonight’s game has unfortunately been postponed.

“The club really appreciates the efforts of the fans already at Bournemouth and those traveling this afternoon. We are very sorry that the game will not be played this weekend. The club did their best to make the game play.

“The club will confirm the details during the free manager’s trip to the rescheduled match as a thank you for your support.

“We wish our supporters a safe journey home and look forward to seeing you all at Preston on Tuesday.”
