Tigray War in Ethiopia: Mekelle’s interior is cut off from the world

These people line up outside a bank to get their money back.

The ceasefire that Ethiopia announced last week to deliver aid to the Tigray region in the north of the country gives hope that the 17-month civil war here is over.

The area was completely isolated for months, leaving millions of people desperately in need of food and basic supplies. A resident of Mekelle, the capital of Tigray under the control of TPLF rebels, managed to tell the BBC what life was like.
