To get off to a good start to summer, the nonprofit Urban Generations invites us to meet with the first edition of Urban Sessions at Parc Josaphat from Thursday 30 June to Sunday 3 July: unmissable for all sports fans an event. and urban culture.
In the programme: BMX, skateboarding, parkour, breakdance… The Brussels Urban Sessions will be an opportunity for professionals to explore these urban and extreme sports through competitions and shows. And why not, to try it with your friends or family. The program also includes activities related to the urban lifestyle: street art, live painting, concerts, DJs, food trucks…
An appointment not to be missed
This newcomer to the Brussels summer calendar aims to establish himself as a must. For this, the organization put small plates inside the big ones. During the festival, Brussels will specifically host an official stage of the BMX freestyle world cup. “We will host the Olympic medalists from the last Tokyo Games,” said Matthieu Gheysen, the organizer of the event. The best female and male athletes in the world will therefore present the most beautiful aerial figures in our capital, six or seven meters above the ground.
Another outstanding discipline: skateboarding, with competitions bringing together the best Belgian skateboarders. Parkour, too, with the world’s greatest athletes who will come to compete against Belgian athletes by defying gravity at the obstacles. “Finally, we have one last space dedicated to breakdancing,” continues Matthieu Gheysen. “We will also see BMX straight or trial shows, especially with Belgian athlete and multiple world champion Kenny Belaey. »
For four days, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., different activities will follow each other in the park. In other words: the show is guaranteed from morning till night! “This is a unique opportunity to see the cream of action sports athletes at work here in Brussels,” the organizer underlines. “It’s great to be able to host the world’s elite but at the same time present a sports show of this quality to the entire Belgian public, and with free admission. Everything is accessible and on the same site: it allows you to discover new disciplines, learn about them, and at the same time approach athletes with a rare and unique affinity you can only find at a festival. urban,” adds Matthieu Gheysen.
Make city sports accessible to everyone
As the first major action sports event in Belgium, the festival is committed to making these urban sports (skateboarding, BMX, etc.) accessible to everyone. Therefore, over the weekend ASBL Run and Wheels will hold initiations for young people with reduced mobility to discover new sensations in the park. Other distinguished guests include Dutch Kevin Van Ekert, 29, world champion and second WCMX world champion. [motocross en fauteuil roulant]will be present to ensure the continuation of the show with their magnificent figures. A performance not to be missed!
As you can see, this festival, held in the heart of Brussels and supported by the Brussels-Capital Region, will offer both high-level sports events and a wide variety of activities open to everyone. “We wanted to create a festival where everyone feels good and everyone can explore,” the organizers sum up. The ideal way to start the holiday in style!
